1396437 Indicating mechanism for balance SALTER HOUSEWARES Ltd 23 Jan 1973 [23 Jan 1972] 3355/73 Headings G1J and G1W A kitchen balance comprises a pointer driven by weight sensing means 15 and a scale 38 which may be metric mounted on a rotatable carrier 29 whereby the scale may be set in different positions to facilitate zeroeing, taring, and weighing of successively added loads. The scale pan which is in the form of a mixing bowl Fig. 3 (not shown) is supported by platform 11 which moves vertically under load by an amount determined by the parallel leaf-spring mechanism 15 and indicated by the rotation of pointer 17. The scale carrier 29 is supported by lugs 34 and guided by felt pieces 36 on wall 32, handles such as 42a, 42b being provided for manual rotation of the carrier. The housing 20 has a window 27 which corresponds with the rotation of the pointer between no-load and full-load positions. A second scale 40 may be provided graduated in avoirdupois units. Up to four separate scales may be provided on carrier 29, each having a different background colour and each provided with a handle 42 of the carrier adjacent its zero mark. If only a single scale is provided, the rotation of the carrier may be limited by stops. Instead of handles 42a, 42b as shown, the carrier may have a projecting edge portion around its total circumference. The scale carrier may have the form of a cylinder Fig. 4, (not shown), a truncated cone Fig. 5, (not shown) or a circular disc. The axis of the scale carrier and pointer may be other than vertical.
