1400908 Jointing by stamping G VINJE 14 Nov 1973 [25 Jan 1973] 52754/73 Heading B3Q A crimping tool, e.g. for crimping terminals on to cables, comprises a plurality of jaws 5, 8, Fig. 1a, each mounting an auxiliary jaw 15, 7 which is biased, for example by springs 21, 22, towards an opposed jaw, the main and auxiliary jaws 5, 8, 15, 7 defining a crimping opening having surfaces which are oblique to the direction of relative movement between the jaws 5, 8. In Fig. 1a, there are two main jaws one 8, stationary and the other 5, movable against a return spring 19 by an hydraulic ram (not shown) mounted on the tool. A wire 21 passing around a guide 24, connects the jaw 5 to auxiliary jaw 7 so that the latter may be withdrawn with jaw 5 for providing a lateral opening, Fig. 3a (not shown), to the crimping space. Stroke adjustment is by an adjustable stop associated with the hydraulic ram, or by adjustment of ram pressure.
