Abstract:
1,268,857. Punching. F. B. HATEBUR A.G. 19 Aug., 1969 [22 Aug., 1968], No. 41266/69. Heading B3W. To form two annular members capable of fitting one within the other from a blank 1 consisting of a cup shaped inner part 4 integral with and axially displaced from an annular outer part 2 a punch 10 mounted on a reciprocable slide (not shown) and having a perforating punch 11 axially displaceable relative thereto is inserted in the blank 1 and moves the part 4 into an outer die 17. The end wall 5 of the part 4 engages an inner die 20 and the annular outer part 2 engages the die 17. As the punch 10 is advanced, the inner die is moved away from it by means of a rod 22 urged into contact with a cam-operated bellcrank lever 23 by a spring 26 and the punch co-operates with the outer die 17 to separate the outer and inner parts 2, 4. The perforating punch 11 is then advanced by means of a cam-operated bellcrank lever 12 by an amount "b" and co-operates with the inner die 20 held stationary against a disc 21 to punch out the end wall 5 of the part 4 which drops through a waste discharge 28 formed in die-locating sleeves 16 and 19 and in the die 20. The punch slide is then retracted and the annular part 2 is stripped from the punch by a fixed stripper plate 27. The annular part 4 is ejected by the return movement of the inner die 20 and a spring 40 retracts the perforating punch 11 with the punch 10. In an alternative embodiment, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), the punches 10 and 11 are replaced by an integral stepped punch 29 and the end wall 5 of the inner part 4 is punched out before the parts 2 and 4 are separated from each other. The inner part is ejected from the die assembly by the return movement of the inner die 20 and simultaneously the stepped punch 29 is retracted and ejector pins (31) passing through the punch are extended by means of the cam operated bellcrank lever 12 to strip the part 4 from the punch.
