Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS49173
Kind Code:
B1
Abstract:
Diels-Alder adducts containing an ester or nitrile group are obtained by mixing a dienophile of general formula in which R is hydrogen or methyl and R1 is CN or a group COOR1 in which R11 is a C1-C20 alkyl radical, with aluminium chloride suspended in an organic solvent to form a complex which dissolves in the solvent and then contacting a 1,3-diene with the resulting solution at a temperature from room temperature to 70 DEG C. Suitable dienes are, for example, 1,3-butadiene, isoprene, piperylene, 2,3-dimethylbutadiene, chloroprene and cyclopentadiene. Suitable dienophiles are, for example, methyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate and acrylonitrile. Examples are given of the preparation of (a) methyl D 3-tetrahydrobenzoate; (b) methyl D 3 -tetrahydrotoluates; (c) methyl chlor-D 3 -tetrahydrobenzoates; (d) octadecyl D 3-tetrahydrobenzoate; (e) methyl 5-norbornene-carboxylate; (f) methyl-3,4-dimethyl-3-cyclohexene carboxylate; (g) 1-methyl-D 3-tetrahydrobenzonitrile and (h) D 3-tetrahydrobenzonitrile.
