Kind Code:
U
Abstract:
1417753 Punching NEW KON INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 16 Jan 1973 [23 May 1972] 2173/73 Heading B3W A perforating device, particularly for punching characters in a lead tape, comprises a housing in which is mounted a template having a face perforated to define characters of different shapes and rotatable to present a selected character at a perforating station, a perforating mechanism at the station and actuating means operable to move the template to present a selected character at the station and then to actuate the perforating mechanism to perforate the tape fed to the perforating station. The template 28, comprising a disc with a depending flange perforated to define characters at (30), Fig. 8 (not shown), is keyed to a shaft 13 at 29. A perforating device comprising pins 38 is mounted on a plate 106 reciprocable towards and away from the template by a crank 22 secured to the plate 106 at 105 and mounted loosely on the shaft 13. At the ends of the pins 38 adjacent the die 28 the pins pass through plates 97 and 103. At their opposite ends the pins pass through a perforated plate 101 in the inoperative position. A tape to be perforated is located in a gap 102 between the plate 101 and a perforated plate 98 and is perforated when pins are driven into the holes 381 in plate 98. The areas between the perforations (30) in the die 28 determine which of the pins are stopped when the perforating device is moved up to the die and are driven through the holes 381 and thus the tape when the device is moved further in the same direction. At the start of a perforating operation, the die 28 is rotating through sun and planet gearing 12, 15 driven by a motor 7. A plate cam 19 and the crank 22, freely mounted on an eccentric boss 32 of the plate 19, are held stationary by a roller 42 on the end of a spring loaded lever 33 bearing on a flat portion (43a) of the edge of cam 19 (Fig. 5, not shown). The rotary position of the die is determined first by depressing the push button 2 corresponding to the selected character. The rod 48 integral with the button stops the die by engaging in a notch 311, 3111, or 31111 in a selector bar 31 fixed to the die. Rotation of the planetary gears 15 about the sun gear 12 stops but rotation of the sun gear 12 and of the planet gears 15 about their own axes continues causing an internally toothed gear 20 fixed to the cam 19 to rotate. On rotation of the gear 20 the roller 42 on the lever 33 moves on to a circular portion (43) of the cam edge and causes a pawl 41 on the other end of the lever 33 to engage between teeth on the die 28. Further rotation of the cam 19 causes a roller (68) also engaging the cam edge to ride on the flat portion (43a) and thus move a plate 60 upwards which returns the depressed button 2 to its original position. Meanwhile rotation of the cam 19 causes the crank arm 22 to draw the perforating device towards the die 28. Lead tape to be punched is fed to the perforating device from a reel 84, Fig. 12, between rollers 77, 80 mounted on a movable plate 75 of the device. A spring- loaded plate 85 has a curved end 87 which engages ratchet teeth 76 of the roller 77 and, as the device returns to rest position, rotates the roller 77 to advance the tape the required distance. Lengths of perforated tape are sheared by means of a knob 95 which pivots a blade 91 past a fixed blade 90.
