Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS4927401
Kind Code:
B1
Abstract:
1,250,736. Alkylated tars and their uses KUREHA KAGAKU KOGYO K.K. 13 Feb., 1970 [14 Feb., 1969], No. 7159/70. Headings C4X, C5E and C5F. Tar fractions obtained by thermal cracking of petroleum hydrocarbon at 700-2300‹ C., and said to consist mainly of compounds having 2-5 benzene rings, particularly 2-4 condensed benzene rings and being substantially free from side chains other than methyl groups, are alkylated with a C 2 -C 4 olefin in the presence of a suitable catalyst to give a more useful product. Suitable catalysts include silica-alumina, and La, Ce or Th supported on a zeolite carrier. Before alkylation the tar fraction may be hydrodesulphurized over a catalyst comprising Co, Mo or Ni in metallic, oxide or sulphide form supported on a suitable carrier, e.g. silicaalumina. The products of the above process are stated to be useful as, inter alia, heat transfer oils and electrical insulating oils.
