Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS4932172
Kind Code:
B1
Abstract:
1,224,680. Electro-depositing zinc-nickel alloy. WHEELING-PITTSBURGH STEEL CORP. July 23, 1969 [Jan.31, 1969], No.37151/69. Headings C7A and C7B. A ductile Zn-Ni alloy coating consisting of 9À5-12À5% Ni with the remainder Zn is electrodeposited on a metallic article, e.g. a moving steel strip, from an aqueous plating bath having a pH of 4À0-4À5 and containing 7-9 oz/gal Zn and 4-5À1 oz/gal Ni (as ZnCl 2 and NiCl 2 ) using a cathodic current density of 40-100 A S F. The plating bath may contain sulphated or sulphonated lauryl alcohol as wetting agent, and acetic acid. The coating has an internal stress of +30 to -1200 and a greater corrosion resistance than a coating produced under like conditions except that the bath pH is less than 4.0, e.g. 2.5-3.5 as in the bath described in U.S.A. Specification 3, 420, 754 in which the concentration of Zn is 8-10 oz/gal yielding an alloy coating consisting of 6À5-9À5% Ni and the remainder Zn.
