Abstract:

The hose shown has a rubber interior tube 42, a ply 44 of textile wrapped on the tube 42, and a second rubber tube 46 surrounding the ply 44; said textile comprising a ribbon 38 made up of at least two substantially untwisted multifilament yarns impregnated with a polymeric binder in an amount equal to at least 10% by weight of said yarns, on a dry basis. The binder is capable of promoting adhesion between said yarns and the tubes 42, 46. The yarns are substantially parallel, co-planar, and bonded to one another along the edges thereof to make up the ribbon 38. The tubes 42, 46 are vulcanized to the binder. There may be a further ply 48 surrounding the tube 46, and an outer rubber tube 50 surrounding the ply 48. Any well-known continuous filaments may be used in making the reinforcing ribbon including, by way of example, polyamides, such as polyhexamethylene adipamide and polycaproamide; polyesters, such as ethylene terephthalate polymers and copolymers; acrylic polymers and copolymers such as polyacrylonitrile; vinyl polymers such as polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl chloride and polyvinylidene chloride; fluorinated ethylene polymers such as polytetrafluoroethylene and polytrifluoromonochloroethylene; polyhydrocarbons such as linear polyethylene, linear polypropylene and copolymers of ethylene with other polymerizable monomers; regenerated cellulose; cellulose acetate; polyurethanes; or filaments from natural sources, such as silk, glass and the like. Biconstituent filaments of polyamide and polyester may be used. The polymeric binder may be resorcinolformaldehyde-rubber.
