Japanese Patent JPS4936907
Kind Code:
B1
Abstract:
1,182,909. Making brake discs; welding by fusion. BUDD CO. 21 Nov., 1968 [22 Nov., 1967], No. 55277/68. Headings B3A and B3R. [Also in Division F2] Brake discs are made by forming a corrugated spacer 20 having a plurality of ridges 16 thereon, forming a pair of annular brake plates 12a, placing a brake plate on each side of the corrugated spacer in axial alignment therewith and securing them to the spacer along the length of the ridges 16. The mounting means 19 may be formed integrally with one of the brake plates or with the spacer, Fig. 2 (not shown). The components of the brake disc may be stamped from flat sheet or coil stock or be made by roll forming a helical coil which is cut into 360 degree sections and welded as at 21. When welding is used, the surfaces on opposite sides of the disc are ground parallel. Welding.-The plates are secured to the corrugated spacer by means of electron beam welding, whereby the assembled disc is rotated with the ridges preferably 0À01 inch from the adjacent plate and the beam is fixedly directed at an angle to intersect two or more adjacent ridges.
