1326767 Producing moulds by electro-forming RCA CORPORATION 22 Sept 1970 [29 Sept 1969] 45070/70 Heading C7B A method of making replicas of a relief pattern recording audio or visual information on the surface of a plastics material comprises sensitizing and activating said surface, electroless deposition of nickel or cobalt on the surface from a bath containing a complexing agent at substantially room temperature, reinforcing the Ni or Co layer with a backing layer, e.g. by electro-deposition, removing the deposited metal negative from the original and using it to produce copies of said surface relief pattern on a deformable plastics material. Alternatively the surface of the negative may be passivated with a potassium dichromate or potassium permanganate solution, and a thick nickel positive be electro-plated thereon, which after separation is used to make further negatives.
