1377312 Substituted amido-benzophenones CASSELLA FARBWERKE MAINKUR AG 4 May 1973 [12 May 1972] 21295/73 Heading C2C The invention comprises benzophenone derivatives of the formula and their acid addition salts, wherein R 1 and R 2 represent H or a C 1 -C 4 alkyl or alkenyl radical, R 3 represents CN, CONH 2 , COOH, COOCH 3 or COOMe where Me is a metallic cation, n is 1 or 2, m is 1, 2 or 3, and the rings A and B may be substituted. They may be obtained by reacting a compound of the formula with a compound of the formula one of X and Y represents R 2 NH- and the other is a halogen. Products wherein m is 2 or 3 may also be obtained by reacting a compound of Formula II wherein X is R 2 NH- with a compound containing an aliphatic double bond of the formula Products wherein R 3 is CN and is in the α-position in relation to the amino group of the side chain, a compound of Formula II wherein X is R 2 NH with an aldehyde or ketone of the formula and with HCN or an alkali metal cyanide. Compounds in which R 3 is carbomethoxy or carboethoxy may be saponified to give compounds in which R 3 is COOH or be subjected to give compounds in which R 3 is CONH 2 . Examples which illustrate the production of these compounds are given. Compounds of Formula I have a sedative action on the central nervous system. Some of these compounds also have muscle-relaxing and aggression-inhibiting properties. They may be administered as tablets, suppositories, capsules, emulsions or suspensions or in conjunction with diluents or carriers. 2 - (N - Methyl - N - # - chloropropionylamino)- 5-chlorobenzophenone is obtained by condensing 2-methylamino-5-chlorobenzophenone with #- chloropropionyl chloride in toluene. 2 - (Methylamino - acetamido) - 5 - ehlorobenzophenone is obtained by condensing 2-(chloroacetamido)-5-chlorobenzophenone in dioxane with methylamine in methanol.
