Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
1393623 Ammonium salt treated sulphonated phthalocyanines AMERICAN CYANAMID CO 8 May 1973 [8 May 1972] 21972/73 Headings C4A and C4P [Also in Division C3] A process for the preparation of copper phthalocyanine pigment sulphonated to the extent of 0À03 to 0À18 sulphonic acid groups per copper phthalocyanine molecule but which has no phenyl groups directly attached to the nucleus, comprises treating a copper phthalocyanine having from 0À3 to 1À5 sulphonic acid groups per molecule with an amine salt treating agent selected from salts of quaternary ammonium bases and alkyl-, aralkyl-, cyclized alkyl- or cycloalkyl-amines having a total of 4-18 carbon atoms attached to each nitrogen, and mixtures of these bases and amines, in an aqueous medium at pH 4-7 and at 20-100‹ C., and if the thus-treated phthalocyanine has a sulphonic acid content of more than 0À18 sulphonic acid groups per molecule, blending the thus-treated phthalocyanine with sufficient unsulphonated or substantially unsulphonated phthalocyanine to give a phthalocyanine composition having 0À03 to 0À18 sulphonic acid groups per molecule. The pigments may be used in printing ink compositions, such as Rotogravure type C vehicle and cosolvent polyamide flexographic inks.
