Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
1457324 Shearing CANRON Inc 28 Feb 1974 [18 June 1973] 9220/74 Heading B3W A related rake angle and stroke control apparatus for a shear device comprises rake angle adjustment means, an adjustable stop for stroke adjustment, the applicable means adjacent the stroke adjustment means representing the interrelationship between the rake angle and stroke adjustment means and an indicator mounted on the adjustable stop for movement over the graphical means so as to indicate the extent of co-operation between the shear tools for any rake angle and any position of the adjustable stop. The rake angle of an upper, movable blade 54 is variable by pivoting a supporting ram 24 relative to a slide 23 vertically guided on the shear frame 21. The ram is pivoted by an actuating cylinder 27, the piston-rod- 28 bearing on an arcuate block 32 located in a circular opening 33 in the ram 24 and pivoted at 37 to the slide 23. A nut 34 on the rod 28 engages a,second arcuate block 31 which is freely rotatable in the opening 33. The ram is also connected to the slide by studs 38, 39 which allow the ram to pivot. The stroke of the ram is adjustable by means of stops 67, 68 adjustably mounted on a bracket 64 on the slide 23, the stop 68 ending the upward stroke when it engages a microswitch 71 on the frame 21 and the stop 67 ending the down stroke when it engages microswitch 72. To vary the stroke in relation to the selected rake angle, an indicator 74 on the stop 67 co-operates with markings on the bracket 64. Vertical lines 76 represent rake angle settings and sloping lines 79 representing workpiece lengths intersect lines 76, the intersections representing the lengths over which the blades are in shearing co-operation for a given rake angle. Indicia 77 on the lines 76 correspond to indicia 78 on rake angle control means. A cable 86, Fig. 4, couples a valve (83), Fig. 5, not shown, mounted on the ram 24 to a tensioning device 84 mounted on the slide 23. The mountings may be reversed and a pulley 96 adjacent the ram mounting accommodates tilting movement of the ram. The valve 83 is connected to the hydraulic ram-actuating cylinders 27. Tensioning the cable 86 by pivoting a lever 113 moves the valve body (89) to cause adjustment of the rake angle in one direction and a spring (91) in the valve. When the tension is relaxed causes adjustment in the opposite direction. Spring- biased detents (122) may be mounted between a collar 106 on which the lever 113 is mounted and a fixed collar 108 to facilitate indexing the lever 113.
