Japanese Patent JPS5019108
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
1448983 Air cushion vehicles AIR CUSHION EQUIPMENT Ltd 12 Oct 1972 [14 Oct 1972] 47515/72 Heading B7K A U-section finger forming part of the flexible skirt of an air cushion vehicle has its outermost portion (as assembled on a vehicle) formed with a folded tuck 10 so as to give the outermost wall 5 an angled profile as seen in side elevation thereby increasing the effective lift area of the cushion. In the embodiment shown in the Figures six fingers are folded from a single shaped sheet of material (Fig. 1, not shown) and adjoining folds are stitched to form a pocket into which a rod 24 is inserted to form a bead in the form of a sail bolt rope. This is inserted into a longitudinally slotted tube 30 to provide the main support for each finger. A tongue created by the fold 10 is trapped between a steel strip 32 and a neoprene foam strip 33 secured at 34 to the vehicle platform 8. A folding arrangement for a single finger is described (Fig. 4, not shown) and in an alternative arrangement the outer, upper portion of wall 5 is angled inwardly and upwardly instead of vertically as shown in Fig. 3 thereby increasing further the area of the cushion.
