1354005 Safety belt locking device TOKAI RIKA DENKI SEISAKUSHO KK 24 Nov 1971 [24 Nov 1970] 54639/71 Heading A3V An automatic locking device for a vehicle safety belt 7 wound on a reel shaft 6 by a spring comprises a ball 25 which moves on a dished seat 18 in the event of acceleration or deceleration of the vehicle to cause an inverted bowl-shaped element 28 on top of a shaft 27 to pivot on a plate 21 thereby magnifying the lifting action of the ball 25 and raising an element 13 against spring bias to rotate a rod 10 and bring a pawl 11 at the other end of the rod into engagement with a toothed gear 9 on the shaft 6 to lock the shaft against belt withdrawl. The shaft 27 is slidingly inserted in a bore of a part spherical element 23 which is tiltable in a spherical bearing. The seat 18 is defined by the base of a cylindrical case 16 and a central hollow 19 locates the ball 25 in its normal rest position.
