Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5034307
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
1476428 White oils SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 1 July 1974 [3 July 1973] 31602/73 Heading C5E White oils are produced from wax by a twostage hydrogenation process in which the first stage is carried out using a sulphidic catalyst comprising Ni and/or Co together with Mo and/ or W on a carrier and the second stage is carried out using either (a) a catalyst comprising one or more noble metals of Group VIII on a carrier at at least 50‹ C. below the first stage temperature or (b) a sulphidic catalyst of the type suitable for use in the first stage at at least 25‹ C. below the first stage temperature. If the second stage is carried out according to procedure (a), it can be followed by treatment with a solid adsorbent, and if it is carried out according to procedure (b), it can be followed by treatment with acid, neutralization and treatment with a solid adsorbent. The hydrogenated product can be dewaxed, using a methyl ethyl ketone/ toluene mixture, preferably between the two hydrogenation stages and the wax recycled to the first stage. The first stage hydrotreating can be carried out at 300-425‹ C. and a hydrogen partial pressure of 10-250 bar. In examples: (1) a wax obtained by dewaxing a residual oil fraction, which had previously been deasphalted with propane and extracted with furfural, is hydrotreated using a sulphided Ni-W-F-Al 2 O 3 catalyst, topped and dewaxed; the dewaxed oil is then hydrotreated using a Pt-Al 2 O 3 catalyst to produce medicinal oils and technical white oils and (2) a deoiled wax, obtained by dewaxing a residual fraction of a hydrocrackate which had been prepared by hydrocracking a propane-deasphalted residual lubricating oil fraction, is hydrotreated in two stages using a sulphided Ni-Mo-P-F-Al 2 O 3 catalyst; a product of carrying out the second stage hydrotreating at 275‹ C. is topped at 425‹ C. and the 425‹ C. + fraction dewaxed to produce an oil A, a product of carrying out the second stage hydrotreating at 300‹ C. is topped at 270‹ C. and split into a 270-425‹ C. fraction which is dewaxed to provide a fraction B, and a 425‹ C. + fraction which is dewaxed to provide a fraction C. An oil D is obtained by blending 63% weight of oil B with 37% of oil C and the oils A, C and D are treated with 3% earth to produce medicinal oils.
