Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5034447
Kind Code:
B1
Abstract:
1,095,374. Apparatus for checking ski binding. G. C. LIPE. April 22, 1966, No. 17811/66. Heading A6D. Apparatus for checking the release point of a releasable ski binding includes a base portion engageable with a ski on which the binding is mounted, means for engaging a portion of a ski boot held in the binding, means including a movable actuator acting against a spring to apply a force to the boot-engaging means and an indicator coacting with the actuator whereby, when the actuator is moved against the spring until the opposing force built up in the spring reaches a magnitude equal to that needed to release the binding, the point of release is shown by the indicator. One embodiment comprises a base portion 30 having a force-applying means 31 and a portion 32 over which a ski is positioned during use. The force-applying means 31 includes a support 35 connected to base portion 30 by rivets 37. The support 35 is formed with a horizontal bore 38 in which a tubular actuator member 40 is sidably mounted. Movement of the actuator 40 is effected by a handle assembly comprising a pair of links 41 pivotally supported at 42 and connected at the upper ends by a cross piece 44. Rearwardly extending links 45 are pivotally connected to the links 41 and to the rear end of the actuator member by pin 47 and bushings 48. A cylindrical plunger 50 having a reduced diameter portion 51 is slidably mounted in the forward part of the actuator member 40. The forward end of the actuator tube has a lip 54 which provides a stop for the shoulder 52 of the plunger. The plunger 50 is urged into its outermost position relative to the actuator by a calibrated compression spring 57. The forward end of the plunger is provided with a boot engaging head 61, and in between this head and the lip 54 it is marked with force indicating graduations 62. An O- ring 64 is mounted on the portion 51 of the plunger, and the zero graduation mark is located on the plunger so that it is in line with the outside of the O-ring when the inside of the ring abuts the lip 54. In operation, when the binding is released, the ring 64 will have been pushed to one of the graduations 62 where it remains during the release action, indicating the release force. Other forms of the apparatus are described including a bench form of the apparatus, a form in which the actuator is operated by a screw knob, and a form suitable for use in checking heel bindings.
