Abstract:
1,261,292. Cholesta - 5,7 - diene - 3#,25# - diol. WISCONSIN ALUMNI RESEARCH FOUNDATION. 30 June, 1969 [9 Dec., 1968], No. 1766/71. Divided out of 1,261,291. Heading C2U. The novel compound cholesta-5,7-diene-3#, 25#-diol is prepared either from diesters thereof by LiAlH 4 reduction or by the action of alcoholic KOH or NaOH, or from an ester of 3#- hydroxy-27-noroholesta-5,7-diene-25-one by reaction with a methyl Grignard reagent and hydrolysis of the resulting adduct. 25-Hydroxycholesterol is produced as a byproduct of the last-mentioned process. The 3,25 - diacetate and 3 - acetate - 25 - benzoate of cholesta - 5,7 - diene - 3#,25# - diol and the 3 - acetate of 3# - hydroxy - 27 - norcholesta- 5,7-dien-25-one are prepared from the corresponding #5 -monoenes by reaction with N,N1 - dibromodimethylhydantoin and dehydrohalogenation of the resulting #5 -7#-bromo compound with trimethyl phosphite.
