Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
1445218 Dewatering sewage sludges HERCULES Inc 1 Aug 1974 [2 Aug 1973 2 Oct 1973] 33995/74 Heading C1C [Also in Division C3P] Sewage sludges containing 0À5 to 10% solids, at least 30% of which are biological, are dewatered by mixing with a copolymer of acrylamide and #-methacryloyloxyethyltrimethylammonium chloride having a reduced specific viscosity of at least 15, as measured at 0À1% concentration in 0À1 N KCl solution; the slurry formed is then dewatered, preferably by vacuum filtration or centrifuging Preferred copolymers contain 15-90 mol per cent, particularly 25- 50 mol per cent, of #-methyacryloyloxyethyltrimethylammonium chloride and 85-10 mol per cent, particularly 75-50 mol per cent, of acrylamide. The quantity of copolymer used is preferably 2-20 pounds/ton of sludge solids on a dry basis.
