1436073 Extinguishing cigarettes M AKIBA 23 Sept 1974 [22 Sept 1973] 41292/74 Headings A2C and A2M A cigarette comprises a tobacco stuffed portion 2 having tobacco 5 contained in a 'hollow cylindrical cigarette paper tube 6, a filter 1 generally of cylindrical shape, provided at one end of the cigarette, a cylindrical extinguishing sleeve 3 having one end portion applied around and adhesively secured to the filter 1 so as to house the filter, and an opposite end portion receiving and releasably holding one end portion of the tobacco-stuffed portion 2 of the cigarette, at least the opposite end portion of the sleeve being formed from or comprising incombustible material or material which is combustible only with difficulty. The sleeve 3 may have a extinguishing layer of incombustible or substantially incombustible material on the inner surface of its opposite end portion e.g. aluminium foil or glass fibre. In an embodiment (not shown) the sleeve 3 has a ring of perforations allowing the tobacco stuffed portion 2 to be easily separated.
