Japanese Patent JPS5090192
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
1488859 Composition for remineralising dental enamel PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 13 Nov 1974 [13 Nov 1973 10 Oct 1974] 49120/74 Heading A5B An orally-acceptable composition for remineralising dental enamel is obtained by freshly mixing (i) a first solution containing 0.005% to 5% by weight of calcium ions in the form of a water-soluble calcium salt with (ii) a second solution containing 0.005% to 5% by weight of phosphate ions in the form of a water-soluble phosphate salt or phosphoric acid, to form a metastable solution having a pH of from 2.0 to 5.0 and a molar ratio of calcium ions to phosphate ions of from 0.01:1 to 100:1. The first solution (i) may additionally contain a water-soluble salt of a polyvalent metal other than calcium e.g. Mg, Sn, Al, In, Mn, Zn, Zr, Fe, Ni, Ti, V, W, Al, Sr, Ti, and rare earth metals such as Ce, La, Sm, Pr and Nd, and the second solution (ii) may additionally contain a watersoluble salt of an anion which forms an insoluble precipitate with calcium or with said polyvalent metal e.g. a fluoride, fluorophosphate, carbonate, salt of a fatty acid having 8-18 carbons such as laurate or stearate, molybdate, sulphate, tungstate, tartrate, sorbate, alkyl sulphonate and iodate, or the second solution may also contain hydrofluoric acid. Suitable calcium salts for use in the first solution (i) are the chloride, acetate, formate, lactate and nitrate and suitable phosphate salts for the second solution (ii) are disodium hydrogen phosphate, sodium or potassium dihydrogen phosphates and trisodium phosphate. The solutions are aqueous but may also contain ethanol, glycerine or propylene glycol. The first and second solutions may be separately packaged in a kit for mixing immediately before use and such a kit may be suitable to prepare a toothpaste or a mouthwash.
