1482436 Slip casting FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 5 Dec 1974 [20 Dec 1973] 52582/74 Heading B5A A slip casting mould providing an article of intricate shape, e.g. a ring gear, comprises a portion 10 of an organic material dissolvable in a solvent not miscible with water or other liquid vehicle of the slip, and a portion 12 of porous material for absorbing the liquid of the slip. When the slip has consolidated in the mould cavity the two mould portions 10, 12 are separated and the portion 10 is removed from the consolidated slip by dissolving it in a solvent; the consolidated slip is then dried to produce the article. When the article is of silicon metal particles it is subjected to a nitriding operation to transform it to silicon nitride. The portion 10 may be formed from p-dichlorobenzene and the solvent is toluene.
