Abstract:
1294840 Selective signalling GENERAL MOTORS CORP 29 April 1971 [11 May 1970] 12158/71 Heading G4H A vehicle operation inhibitor control system for preventing operation of a motor vehicle by an incapacitated person, displays a random sequence of symbols for a fixed interval of time and permits vehicle operation if the operator actuates a selector in a corresponding sequence within a predetermined interval of time. When the vehicle ignition switch is closed, a counter gates the amplified output of a Zener diode noise generator to 7 binary counters in turn, the 7 counts being decoded and displayed for an interval determined by a preset wiper switch, after which a keyboard is illuminated and the operator is given a second interval of time determined by another preset wiper switch to enter the displayed numbers in turn on the keyboard. The numbers entered are coded, stored in shift registers and compared with the counts. If equality is obtained and the numbers were all entered within the second interval of time and no more than one key was pressed at a time, the starter circuit of the vehicle is energized.
