Japanese Patent JPS5196797
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
1529382 Producing hydrogen peroxide by electrolysis KERNFORSCHUNGSANLAGE JULICH GmbH 14 Jan 1976 [15 Jan 1975] 01469/76 Heading C7B H 2 O 2 is produced by electrolysis of an alkali metal (e.g. K) hydroxide solution with cathodic reduction of oxygen, preferably using a gas electrode as cathode 5, to form an aqueous solution containing alkali metal hydroperoxide; forming and separating therefrom a precipitate of alkaline earth metal peroxide; suspending the precipitate in water and introducing CO 2 to convert the peroxide to carbonate and H 2 O 2 ; and separating off the alkaline earth metal carbonate. A concentrated solution or aqueous suspension of alkaline earth metal (e.g. Ca) hydroxide, or solid alkaline earth metal (e.g. Ca) hydroxide or oxide, may be added to the alkali metal hydroperoxide solution to form the precipitate. Alkali metal hydroxide solution formed by separation of the peroxide is preferably returned into the anode chamber 1 of the electrolytic cell 4 subdivided by a porous PVC diaphragm 2. The cathode may be of rubber bonded activated charcoal. Separations may be by filters 7 and 9.
