Japanese Patent JPS5220760
Kind Code:
B1
Abstract:
1325488 De-icing boots B F GOODRICH CO 25 Aug 1970 [25 Aug 1969] 40848/70 Heading B7W An inflatable laminated de-icer boot 10 mountable on an aerofoil comprises a series of selectively inflatable and deflatable tubes 12, Fig. 1, and a manifold ply 16 through which an inflating medium flows to the tubes 12, the manifold ply 16 being overlayed by sealing layers impervious to the inflating medium, and the ply 16 having a multitude of stiff short fibres 19, Fig. 2, providing interstices through which the inflating medium can flow to and from the tubes 12. The manifold ply 16 is formed by plies 17, 18 though a single layer or several layers may be used. The tubes 12 which are radially but not longitudinally extensible are located between a top ply 11 adapted to contact the aerofoil's surface, and a bottom ply 13, and are supplied with gas through a filler pipe 42. The latter opens into a manifold ply (37), Fig. 3 (not shown), which has fibres 19 projecting towards openings (35), (34) in inflation tubes (32), (33) through which the gas flows to the manifold ply 16 and hence to the tubes 12. The gas may be supplied directly to the manifold ply 16. The boot 10 incorporates reinforcing material 29, 30 e.g. of rubberized fabric which may be bias-cut to permit resilient distension and contraction of the boot.
