Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5227158
Kind Code:
B1
Abstract:
1,146,711. Hydrolysis of steroidal acetals and ketals. SYNTEX CORP. 27 May, 1966 [2 May, 1965; 1 June, 1965], No. 23798/66. Headings C2C and C2U. Steroid cyclic acetals and ketals are hydrolysed to the corresponding free diols by treatment at a temperature of from - 30‹ to 25‹ C. with a 20 to 90% by weight aqueous solution of HF or HCl, sufficient of the solution being used to provide at least 10 mols. of the hydrogen halide per mole of the steroid. The steroids may be of the androstane, estrane, pregnane, 19- nor-pregnane, cholestane or sapogenin series, or may be 9#-, retro-, 19-nor-retro-, oxa-, aza-, or #-homo-steroids, and the cyclic acetals or ketals formed by condensation of adjacent or non-adjacent alpha or beta orientated OH groups in the nucleus or a side chain with carbonyl compounds of the formula R2COR3 wherein R2 and R3 are each H, C 1-8 alkyl or cycloalkyl which may be substituted, aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl which may be substituted, or monocyclic heterocyclic optionally substituted, or R2 and R3 together with the adjacent carbon atom are cycloalkyl or monocyclic heterocyclic.
