Abstract:
973,384. Aircraft wing angle of attack iridicators. MONITAIR CORPORATION. April 29, 1963 [May 2, 1962], No. 16814/63. Heading B7W. In an angle of attack measuring device in association with an aeroplane wing, the device comprises a support, a vane mounted on the support to pivot about an axis, and sensing means operatively connected to the vane to sense its pivotal position about the axis, the device being mounted on the wing with the vane and the axis located exteriorly of the wing with the vane in the air-flow-deflection area adjacent the leading edge of the wing and with the axis spaced from the wing. A vane 20a is mounted by an arm 18a on a pivot 24 attached by a housing 28 to the leading edge of a wing 2. The shaft 24 carries a brush 34 wiping a potentiometer 32 and connected by leads 38 to an indicating instrument (not shown). The vane and the arm are balanced by a counterweight 30.
