Japanese Patent JPS5314099
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
1436889 Crosslinking fluorocarbon polymers using radiation INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 24 July 1973 [28 July 1972] 35167/73 Heading C3P [Also in Division B2] A polymeric material comprising (a) a polymer of one or more ethylenically unsaturated fluorocarbon monomers and (b) a triallyl ester of an aromatic polycarboxylic acid (the acid being at least a tricarboxylic acid) is crosslinked by the application of ionizing radiation. Examples of polymer (a) are ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene, ethylene-chlorotrifluoroethylene, tetrafluoroethylene - vinylidene fluoride, tetrafluoroethylene - hexafluoroproplylene, vinylidene fluoride - hexafluoropropylene and vinylidene fluoride - hexafluoropropylenetetrafluoropropylene copolymers, and polyvinylidene fluoride. Suitable as component (b) are the trialkyl esters of trimellitic and trimesic acid. In examples a small proportion of magnesium oxide is incorporated in the polymeric material as a stabilizer, and the ionizing radiation used is an accelerated electron beam. A useful application of the invention is the production of extruded, crosslinked, insulating coatings on wires.
