1,079,296. V/STOL aircraft. DEHAVILLAND AIRCRAFT OF CANADA Ltd. Aug. 4, 1964 [Aug. 29, 1963], No. 31261/64. Heading B7G. [Also in Division F2] A vertical or short take-off and landing aircraft has wings provided with trailing edge flaps 19 and doors 21, 22 defining a gap through which an airflow is induced by blowing through slots as at 35, 36. As described, the aircraft has two by-pass jet engines (10, Figs. 1 and 2, not shown), in each of which the hot flow can be directed either to a rearwardly directed nozzle (14) or a downwardly directed nozzle (46), and the cold flow can be directed to the rearwardly directed nozzle (14) or to one of the slots (23 or 26), the other slot being supplied by the other engine to allow for engine failure. The rearwardly directed nozzle (14) may have a thrust reverser, and the doors 21, 22 may be directed to give vertical thrust.
