1328179 Shoots SHERRITT GORDON MINES Ltd 16 Sept 1971 [1 Oct 1970] 43325/71 Heading B8S An arrangement for diverting materia passing down a shoot 10 comprises a gate 12 movable between one position shown, where all the material is diverted from the shoot 10 into a branch shoot 24, and another position wherein the gate is housed in the shoot 24 and the shoot 10 is unrestricted, a seal 16 at one end of the gate sealing off the entrance to the branch shoot 24 when the gate is housed therein. A funnel 14 reduces the flow area within the shoot 10 above the gate 12, which gate has side walls 22 to guide the material therealong. Movement of the gate is controlled by a double acting pneumatic ram 30 and rod 28, and the gate may be formed as a sampling box whereby a sample of material flowing through the shoot 10 may be collected and discharged through a door in the branch shoot 24. In another embodiment, the gate moves laterally across the upright shoot into the position shown, the upright shoot having a further opening through which the gate passes laterally.
