1387417 Heat treatment; transfer printing IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 28 July 1972 [24 Aug 1971] 39634/71 Heading B6C An apparatus for continuous thermofixation of dyestuffs on to a web of synthetic textile material 6 comprises endless flexible bands 23 and 26 which are in close proximity over part of their travel to define a zone in which the temperature is maintained at at least 100 C. and the pressure at not more than 100 mmHg. The dyestuff may be preprinted on the material 6 or may be printed on a transfer web 7 and transferred to the material 6 on passage through the zone. The temperature is maintained by heaters 27 and 28 and the pressure by an evacuated plenum chamber 29 having one side formed by the band 26 which is perforated or otherwise permeable to air. Rollers 31 may support the band. To shorten the apparatus a second band 26 may be arranged on the other side of band 23, the material 6 being carried around roller 21 by band 23, Fig. 2 (not shown). If desired further bands 23, 26 may be used to extend the zone whilst keeping the apparatus compact, Fig. 3 (not shown). To control the pressure differential across the material a further vacuum chamber may be provided on the opposite side of bands 23 and 26 to chamber 29.
