Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5613942
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
1489793 Panchromatic ZnO OCE-VAN DER GRINTEN NV 2 May 1975 [3 May 1974] 18474/75 Heading ClA [Also in Division G2] Panchromatically sensitive ZnO containing N atoms in the lattice is prepared by (a) agitating and heating finely divided ZnO below 145‹ C. in NH 3 or CO 2 gas and the, (b) heating the product of (a) at 190‹ to 350‹ C. to constant weight. Step (a) is carried out for such a time that the ZnO product of (b) has a moisture sensitivity such that upon charging to a maximum potential a photoconductive layer of the ZnO and binder (in a 7 : 1 wt. ratio), the binder being moisture insensitive and having a resistivity of 1013 ohm. cm., the layer requires at least 25 sec. to halve the potential, with the layer being applied to a conductive support and held in the dark in air at 40‹ C. and at a dew point of 28‹ C. In step (a) the ZnO may be agitated by a stirrer, a conveyer spiral or a fluidized bed. Suitable binders are polystyrene polyacrylic, polymethacrylic esters, chlorinated rubber vinyl polymers (e.g. polyvinyl acetate and polyvinyl chloride), cellulosic esters and ethers, alkyl resins, epoxy resins, silicone resins along with copolymers and mixtures of these binders. The panchromatically sensitive ZnO may be further sensitized with organic dyestuffs and used in electrophotography (see Division G2).
