Abstract:
1373290 1 -Hydroxy-cyclopropane-1-carboxylic acids BAYER AG 5 June 1972 [8 June 1971] 26052/72 Heading C2C Compounds (mostly novel) of Formula I (in which each of R1 , R2 , R3 and R4 is H, C 1-6 alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl or aralkyl and R4 is C 1-6 alkyl, or R1 together with R2 and/or R3 together with R4 , or R1 together with R3 and/or R2 together with R4 , form a straight chain alkylene group or groups, optionally containing one or more of the hetero atoms O, N or S and optionally forming part of a 5- or 6-membered ring), are prepared by treating a compound of Formula II (in which R5 is C 1-5 alkyl or phenyl) with chlorine and/or bromine at a temperature of at most +30 C., and then treating the reaction mixture formed with a protic solvent. The novel compounds are those in which at least one of R1 to R4 is other than H.
