PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound, continuously, in high yield, without using additional processes and special apparatus, by carrying out the decarboxylative condensation of lactam under the conditions that a powdery phase is formed in the reactor as a whole and the ratio of the liquid phase in the reaction system is maintained at a specific level.
CONSTITUTION: Liquid or powder 1 containing lactam, its oligomer or its polymer is fed to a reaction system (A) having powdery phase and containing a decarboxylative condensation agent 2 (e.g. a mixture of LiOH or Li2CO3 with Ca (OH)2 or CaO, etc.). The non-gaseous components in the reactor are made to directly contact with each other while keeping the weight of the non-gaseous produce composed mainly of the starting material in the reaction system and the produce produced therefrom at ≤20wt% of the total weight of the non- gaseous content in the reaction system. The decarboxylation agent or its reaction product is discharged in the form of powder, and the produced amino- Schiff base is taken out of the system continuously in form of vapor. The feed rate of lactam and the residence amount of the decarboxylation agent, etc. are properly selected to keep the ratio at a specified value.
