PURPOSE: To perform one-shot image pickup operation by providing a shutter for inhibiting light incidence to an image pickup element during a charge transfer period in a still mode, and suppressing the generation of a smear and stopping sampling a object image in still mode.
CONSTITUTION: The optical system of an image pickup device is provided with a shutter means SHT, which is controlled by a magnet Mg driven by the output of an arithmetic circuit OP. A picture outputted through a periodic scan by an image pickup element ID is recorded on a magnetic disk D by a recording head RH through a recording processing circuit PS2, etc. The output of the disk D is updated by a shift control circuit SMC synchronously with the periodic scan and its output is monitored on a monitor MTV. Further, successive and still mode switches SW1 and SW2 are provided to switch exposure parameters to be inputted to the arithmetic circuit OP, and the operation of a sample holding circuit SHC is stopped through the operation of the switch SW2 to perform one- shot image pickup operation.
