PURPOSE: To obtain a superior original plate for printing of high print resisting power by providing a water soluble resin layer contg. ZnO powder in a specific amt. ratio range on water resistant backing and providing a photosensitive layer consisting essentially of an o-quinonediazide compd. and an alkaline soluble resin thereon.

CONSTITUTION: A hydrophilic layer 3 consisting of ZnO powder 31 of 3W5 average grain size dispersed at 2.5W5pts.wt. to 1pt.wt. a water soluble resin 32 such as PVA is provided on water resistant backing (may be prepd. by providing a water resistant layer 2 on water resistant paper 1 by coating a water resistant resin or the like on the surface of said paper). A photosensitive layer 4 consisting essentially of an o-quinone, diazide compd. and an alkaline soluble resin such as novolak type phenolic resin is formed on the layer 3. Said layer 3 is porous and part of the photosensitive soln. precolates therein during the formation of the layer 4 by which the adhesive strength of the layers 3 and 4 is increased, and the original plate for printing of high durability wherein the ZnO particles contribute to the improvement in the hydrophilicity of the layer 3 after the desensitization treatment in the photoengraving is obtained.
