Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prepare high quality silage having excellent palatability to cattle, by fermenting rice straw and/or wheat straw in the presence of powder of waste orange peel. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. of rice straw and/or wheat straw are compounded with either (A) 0.5-16pts.wt., pref. 2-8pts.wt. of powder of waste orange peel or (B) a mixture of 0.2-16pts.wt., pref. 1-8pts.wt. of powder of waste orange peel and lactic bacteria (e.g. Lactobacillus plantarum, Streptococcus faecaris, etc.), and fermented. The amount of the bacteria is selected so as to give the number of the living bacterial cells of 10<2>-10<7> per 1 gram of the raw material of the silage. The process enables stable silage fermentation using rice straw of wheat straw.
