PURPOSE: The titled pigment useful as a colorant for coating compounds of the solvent type or the water-soluble type for high-grade coating finish, having improved dispersibility, gloss, and weather resistance, obtained by coating the surfaces of particles of titanium dioxide substrate with a tin phosphate and an aluminum oxide hydrate in a specific ratio.
CONSTITUTION: (A) Aqueous slurry of titanium dioxide is blended with (B) 0.3W 1wt% calculated as SnO2 based on substrate weight of a soluble tin compound (e.g., tin chloride, etc.) and a soluble phosphoric acid or its salt (e.g., orthophosphoric acid, etc.) so that an inner film is formed. The slurry is adjusted to ≤2pH, the slurry is blended with (C) 0.1W5wt% calculated as Al2O3 of an aluminum oxide hydrate (e.g., alkali aluminate, etc.), so that an outer film is formed. The slurry is adjusted to 6W8pH, to give the desired pigment.
