PURPOSE: An alkaline primary cell, in which a stable characteristic of electric discharge at a large consumption current is provided by using a negative electrode where zinc powder and specific high molecular material in a grain state are mixed with a gel-state electrolyte.
CONSTITUTION: A negative electrode, in which amalgamative zinc powder or the like and grain-state high molecular material not dissolving or gelling but absorbing an alkaline electrolyte are dispersed in an electrolyte formed to a gel-state by a water-soluble high molecule, is used in an alkaline primary cell. Acrylic acid and methacrylic acid in grain size about 1∼50μm, in which the water- soluble high moleculed is bridge to a high degree, are suitable for said grain state high molecular material. By use of this negative electrode, an electric discharge characteristic at a large consumption current is improved in the alkaline primary cell while the cell is endurably stored for a long period.
