PURPOSE: To stop a robot quickly even if external force except the force in the axial direction is exerted on a torch and to prevent the damage of the torch by the external force, by supporting the torch body of the torch for welding, gas cutting, etc. with a holding plate having a dog and an intermediate piece part of specific construction.

CONSTITUTION: The body 2 of a torch 4 in an industrial robot to be used for welding, gas cutting, etc. is held with a holding plate 1. The plate 1 has an insertion hole for the body 2 and contains an intermediate piece 9 of a spherical outside shape supported in the home position on the spherical seat 19 of a fastener 3A and a dag 7A having a notch 21. When the force in the axial center direction is exerted on the torch 4, the body 2 retreats, but when the force except the force in the axial direction is exerted thereon, the piece 9 turns and the direction of the body 2 inserted therein changes, then the position of the notch 21 of the dog 7A moves and a stylus 10 inserted therein bends and emits a signal from a switch 8. The robot is stopped by said signal and the damage of the torch 4 is thus prevented.
