Abstract:
PURPOSE:To form an electrode layer on one side of an ion exchange membrane by plating, by holding a plating soln. of a specified pH contg. a platinum compound and hydrazine on the side of the membrane, allowing an alkali soln. to penetrate into the plating soln. from the other side, and reducing the platinum compound with the hydrazine. CONSTITUTION:A plating soln. 5 of 5-6pH contg. a compound of a platinum group metal such as chloroplatinic acid and hydrazine is prepared. An ion exchange membrane 4 is put between an upper plating soln. holder 2 and an under alkali soln. holder 3, and the plating soln. 5 is poured in the holder 2 and held. An alkali soln. 6 is introduced into the holder 3 from the inlet 7 to fill the holder 3. The alkali soln. 6 penetrates into the plating soln. 5 through the membrane 4, and the hydrazine in the soln. 5 reduces the chloroplatinic acid in the presence of the penetrated alkali soln., forming an electrode film 9 on the upper surface of the membrane 4.
