PURPOSE: To make high speed non-impact recording possible with a small size and small energy consumption by providing a dielectric layer having finely uniform ruggedness on a conductive substrate, and utilizing the change in the viscosity of electroviscous liquid when applied with electric fields.
CONSTITUTION: A dielectric layer (or polyester, polystyrene, etc.) 2 having uniformly fine ruggedness like dots or grids is formed on a conductive substrate 1, whereby a dielectric recording medium 3 is manufactured. Electroviscous liquid 5 (prepd. by dispersing fine powder of mica and carbon black with a liquid mixture of butyl sebacate and aliphat. hydrocarbon) is supplied in the recesses of such a recording medium 3, and voltages are applied thereon like images by means of a pin electrode 6, whereby latent images 5' of electroviscous liquid are formed. After the liquid 5 other than the latent images 5' is removed with a scraper 7 (roller coated with foamed polyurethane), image receiving paper 8 is brought into press contact therewith, whereby a copy having transferred images 5" is obtained. After a desired number of sheets of copies are obtained by repetition of the supplying of the liquid 5, developing and transferring, the medium is destaticized with a corona charger 9 so as to be ready for the next copying.
