PURPOSE: To enhance the dispersibility of magnetic powder surface-coated with a phosphoric ester having an unsatd. double bond and the durability of a magnetic recording medium, by using the magnetic powder together with a cross- linkable or polymerizable resin binder.
CONSTITUTION: Magnetic powder of iron oxide or the like surface-coated with a phosphoric ester having ≥1 polymerizable unsatd. double bond such as a reaction product of phosphoric ester having ≥2 hydroxyl groups, an acrylic or methacrylic compound having a functional group reactive with an isocyanate group, and a polyisocyanate compound is dispersed in a resin binder consisting of a compound having an isocyanate group produced by reacting vinyl chloride- vinyl acetate with an acrylic or methacrylic compound, a polyol having a polyisocyanate group, and an acrylic or methacrylic compound. The prepared dispersion is applied to a substrate and cross-linked or polymerized by heating or irradiation to obtain a magnetic recording medium.
