PURPOSE: To continuously perform a patternless rolling without replacing a roll, by projecting the end of a roll, the length of which is made larger than the maximum rolling sheet width of a rolling mill, to the side of the mill, and grinding the projected part during rollng work.

CONSTITUTION: Work rolls 1 and 2 are arranged alternately by making their lengths larger than the maximum rolling sheet width of a rolling mill, and respective chocks 5, couplings 6, spline-type joints 7, and roll driving sources 8 are arranged in sequence and are connected to respective rolls 1 and 2 freely movably and rotatably in the direction of the roll axis. Further, a grinding device 17, for grinding a projected roll part, is provided to a pair of guiding members 13 fixed to a housing of a mill, and a grinding table 20 is slided by rotating a screw rod 18 with the aid of a motor 19 to grind the rolls 1 and 2 by a grinding wheel 22 provided to the table 20. Thus the continuous rolling is performed without replacing the roll by repeating the grinding of a worm out part of the roll while the rolling is operated by a new part of the roll.
