PURPOSE: To utilize separated water for cooling a waste shale and inhibiting the dusting, and eliminate the waste water from the carbonizing process, by separating and recovering water formed in heating oil shale, and mixing the resultant water with the waste shale.
CONSTITUTION: A crushed oil shale is moved on a traveling grate 1, and preheated in a preheating zone (I) with a combustion waste gas from a conduit 2, heated with a formed gas by the carbonization from a conduit 3, passed through a carbon recovering zone (III), cooled in cooling zones (IV) and (V) and then discharged as a waste shale. Water is simultaneously separated from an effulent from the zone (I) in a gas-liquid separator 7, and a gas is separated and recovered from an effluent from the zone (II) in a gas-liquid separator 11. The remaining oil and water are separated in an oil-water separator 21 to sprinkle the separated water with the separated water from the zone (I from a conduit 24 over the waste shale at the outlet of the zone (V).
