PURPOSE: To improve life and high rate discharge performance of a battery by filling an organic high molecular material having ion conductivity in voids between granulated lead powders.
CONSTITUTION: A paste obtained by kneading lead powder and dilute sulfuric acid is formed in a granular shape with a granulating machine. Ball-shaped granules having a particle size of 0.1∼1.0mm are preferable to uniformly fill them in a tube, and to keep granules in contact with other granules, and to form gaps for electrolyte path in an active mass layer. After drying, granules are mixed with an organic high molecular material, and they are filled in a tube and formed to obtain a clad type positive plate. Ion exchange resin such as cation or anion exchange resin is preferable as the organic high molecular material. It is important that a mixing amount of the ion exchange resin does not exceed the amount necessary for filling the void volume between granules. Even if binding action of granulated active masses is decreased by repeated charge-discharge cycles, breakdown of them is prevented by filled ion exchange resins.
