Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide a sintered alloy for cutting with uniform surface and interior structure, high toughness and no change in blade edge at high temp. and high press. by sintering hard phasses consisting of IVa-VIa group metals, esp. Ti, C, N and O with an iron group metal as binder metal. CONSTITUTION:The sintered alloy consists of 75-97% of hard phases of B1 type solid soln. based on carbides, nitrides and oxides of IVa, Va and VIa group metals, esp. Ti, and 3-25% of a binder metal consisting of an iron group metal such as Co, Ni or Fe and Al, Cu, Ag, Si, B, etc. Hard phase powder and binder metal powder are mixed in a prescribed amt., and the mixt. is press molded and sintered in a vacuum of 10<-3>-10<-4> mmHg. The sintered product is then cooled at a CO gas partial press. of 0.1-300 Torr to obtain the desired sintered hard alloy for cutting with a uniform compsn. causing no leak of the binder metal to the surface. The oxygen content of the alloy from the surface to 0.005-0.2 mm depth is higher than that at 1 mm depth from the surface, and the hardeness is below 1.02 times as high.
