Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6110111
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
A method for maintaining a stable liquid level in a pressurized chamber is described. According to this method a liquid to be treated is heated by direct contact with steam with the consequential condensate being mixed with the treated liquid and removed from said chamber. The following steps are provided: establishing a desired flow rate of liquid to be treated into said chamber, supplying saturated steam to said chamber to heat said liquid by contact heating to condense the steam, collecting the treated liquid along with the condensed water from the steam to maintain a predetermined liquid level in said chamber, varying the rate of steam supply and pressure to maintain the predetermined treatment temperature of the liquid as it is removed from the chamber, and selecting and using for each liquid to be treated a fixed flow area device (276) to control the rate of removal of said treated liquid from said chamber to maintain said predetermined liquid level irrespective of variation of control and said steam supply. An advantageous application field of this method is a process for heating fluids to a relatively high temperature, such as sterilization of UHT temperature, in which the liquid is heated by direct contact with steam while it is held in the form of a very thin, free-falling or a continuous falling stream.
