Japanese Patent JPS613293
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
This invention relates to a process for recovering uranyl cation from a wet process phosphoric acid feed solution comprising contacting the feed with a water-in-oil emulsion having an interior phase containing an aqueous solution of ferrous ions surrounded by a water immiscible, oily exterior phase. The external phase contains a solution of di(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid and trictylphosphine oxide which transport the uranyl cations from the feed solution, through the exterior phase, to the interior phase of the emulsion wherein the uranyl ions are reduced to uranous ions and are thereby trapped in the emulsion. The emulsion is separated from the feed solution and the uranium is recovered. The extraction efficiency of this process ranges from about 50-1,000 compared to an efficiency of only about 1 to 7 conventional solvent processes.
