Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6242973
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
Process comprises (a) using, as adsorber, a matrix contg. biologically recent humic acids and =99 wt.% carrier for the humic acids, which is contacted with sea-water until a max. quantity of adsorbable heavy metal quantity is adsorbed at adsorber matrix. After enrichment with the heavy metals, the heavy metal-contg. adsorber matrix is (b) removed from water-water. The heavy metal-contg. adsorber matrix is (c) washed out with diluted acid, having pH 3, to extract the heavy metal sand the heavy metal-contg. acid is (d) sepd. from the adsorber matrix. Alkali is (e) added to the heavy metal-contg. acid, to form a heavy metal-contg. soln. having pH 4-8 and for further concn. of the heavy metals, the heavy metal-contg. soln. is (f) contacted with a material, (II), causing a chemical or adsorptive bonding of the heavy metals. The heavy metals are then worked up to metal salts. Use of peat, e.g. black peat, enables recovery of V and Mo as well as U. A 1 tonne/day prodn. of U can be achieved with 5 x 103 tonne/peat. Heavy metal enrichment may be 108 w.r.t. their concn. in sea-water. Process is non-polluting.
